Our written materials are constantly updated and reflect a wide range of ESL knowledge and expertise. You will receive an extensive array of teaching materials and resources including a Teachers’ Manual ESL teaching textbook, a Job search manual, a Conversation Manual and a Training manual. These materials thoroughly cover different teaching methodologies, lesson planning ideas, exercise ideas, job search strategies, and include an extensive listing of languages schools, agencies and recruiters from around the world who are looking to hire certified ESL teachers. You will find these resources useful both during the course and in subsequent overseas teaching positions.

Limited Class Size

In order to ensure a low student-to-instructor ratio, our courses have a limited enrolment with spaces allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. The small class size provides a comfortable setting with ample opportunity for you to interact with and learn the most from our highly qualified instructors.

Our Experienced Instructors

TESOL Canada and Education Canada maintain the highest standards for all of course instructors. We only select and train the most talented and energetic instructors in English as a Second Language Teaching domain. Every member of our faculty has years of distinguished ESL teaching experience both in Canada and abroad and firmly believes that teaching ESL provides an exciting and fulfilling opportunity for teachers and students alike.

At the end of each and every course, our students are asked to evaluate our teaching staff. They tell us that they find our instructors approachable, highly knowledgeable, and able to teach difficult material in a dynamic, useful and creative manner which facilitates learning.

Interactive Teaching Practicum

Our certificate courses include several brief weekly assignments which help to reinforce the concepts learned in class. Students are also responsible for designing and presenting an interactive ESL teaching practicum. This practicum provides students with the ideal opportunity to practice many of their newly-acquired ESL teaching skills. Depending on the chosen TESOL format your practicum will be in different length & style.

What does TESOL stand for?

TESOL: Teaching English to Students of Other Languages

This is the same qualification as:

  • TESL: Teaching English as a Second Language
  • TEFL: Teaching English as a Foreign Language
  • CELTA: Certificate of English Language Teaching for Adults

TESOL is the most widely recognized qualification in North America.
CELTA is more common in Europe.

How long will the course take?

The minimum time to complete the course is 8 weeks but most trainees take 12-24 weeks.  We can create a flexible schedule to meet both the student’s and school’s needs.
Trainee teachers who do not wish to complete the teaching practicum can receive a “TESOL certificate” in a minimum of 5 weeks. The costs for the course are the same and
this course does not have the benefit of teaching experience.  This will be noted on your transcript.

Can I teach two languages?

Yes, the course prepares you to teach any language, the teaching skills and theory are the same.  To achieve “bilingual certification” you must take a proficiency test in the second language to convince us that your language knowledge is sufficient, and complete a teaching practicum in that second language.  French, Spanish, Japanese, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese and Korean are offered. (This costs $600)

What will I get at the end of the course?

  • A certificate stating “Experienced TESOL Certificate”
  • Your overall evaluation grade noted on your certificate
  • A transcript of all your course marks
  • All the theoretical information and practical experience to start a career as a professional second language teacher anywhere in the world
  • The confidence of having actual teaching experience under your belt
  • If applicable, we will produce a reference letter

What are the pre-requisites?

  • A good command of English (and second language if applicable).  To ensure and maintain the quality of our program, we will require you to take a proficiency test.
  • We prefer candidates with at least a Bachelors degree but will accept candidates with CEGEP diplomas or equivalent who show the qualities we are looking for in the interview.
